Stepping On

Falls are a leading cause of death and injury in elders. Stepping On is evidence-based and proven to reduce the risk of falling.

Stepping On is a step by step 7-week fun and effective educational program for mobile elders. This program will enable you to effectively teach them a few basic principles that really work to help them avoid falling. It was developed by respected Australian eldercare researchers Dr. Lindy Clemson and Megan Swann, and University of Wisconsin Geriatrician Dr. Jane Mahoney. University research studies show that the Stepping On! falls education program reduced falls by 31%. This makes it one of the few comprehensive falls programs that is actually research-proven to reduce falls. Topics include:

  • Strength and Balance exercises
  • Moving about Safely
  • Home Hazards
  • Community Safety
  • Footwear
  • Vision
  • Vitamin D
  • Medication Review
  • and others

The manual, training and consulting are available from Wisconsin Institute for Health Aging.
